Core Values
Curiosity
We embrace the "why" and encourage questions of all kinds! Adults can learn plenty from our community's littlest minds--no idea is too small. Questions and discussions are welcomed. Some of my favorite questions to ask children include "What do you think?", "Why do you think that happens?", and "What do you think would be the result if we tried this?".
Openmindedness
It's important for both kids and adults to stretch their minds and be open to new ideas, experiences, and practices. This is a place where children's exploration is encouraged, as well as stepping outside their comfort zones (with the support of trusted adults).
Delight
There is so much joy and beauty to be found in the natural world.
Creativity
When it comes to shaping our own futures, our imaginations can be a great source to practice problem solving! Children are encouraged to "think outside the box," and will frequently suggest ideas that are new to adults. While we are not going to solve climate change or world hunger in just a few hours, this is a great opportunity to exercise critical thinking and prediction.
Respect
Respect for our environment is first rooted in respect for ourselves and others. The Nature Network provides a safe space for children to follow their curiosity, questions, and intuition, and for the adults to follow along for the ride! Every person (and living thing, including our earth) is valued here, and everyone's voice will be heard.
Learning
Learning can (and should) be fun! Before the age of 6 in particular, children's brains have so much potential to learn and make new connections (this characteristic, called plasticity, means the structures in the brain haven't solidified yet. It's the reason it gets exponentially more difficult to learn another language after early childhood). The Nature Network is a place to provide your child with a variety of experiences, knowledge, and vocabulary that their brain can soak up.
